1. What are online newspaper paywalls? Are they effective? A pay wall is a method of restricting access to  content via a paid subscription. They are  effective as readers are intrigued by the  striking headline and beginning of the article  and so pay money to carry on reading. It is a  funding  opportunity.  2. How are newspapers currently funded?   Newspapers are funded by the cover price, which  is the main source of income. The weekday,  guardian price  is £2.20. The Sunday Observer is  £3.20. Leveson Inquiry The Leveson inquiry was a judicial public inquiry into the culture, practises and ethics of the British press following the news international phone hacking scandal. Sienna Millers phone was being hacked by journalists, it left her feeling violated and caused her to distrust her family and friends, as she didn't know who it was. She was scared and confused as to how everyone knew where she was constantly as well as personal information. It turned out this was happening to lots of victims they wanted to exploit.  IPSO Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO ) Is a regulator of magazines and newspapers and their online copies. It is funded by these magazine and newspaper companies. Any member of the public can make a complaint to IPSO. IPSO claim all the news they regulate is new, it delivers what the Leveson inquiry recommends   and claim they are the toughest regulator in the world. News regulation and Politics The Guardian and Observer The Guardian is a daily newspaper published by the guardian group and owned by the Scotts trust.  The observer is a Sunday newspaper published by the Guardian group. Its basically the guardian released on a Sunday with more of a focus on investigative, long tern=m, journalism but it will still report on immediate news.  They follow 5 key principles  Develop ideas that help improve the world, not just critique it.  Collaborate  with readers and other to have a greater impact.  Diversify , to have richer reporting from a representative newsroom- around the world, reflective of everyone.  Be meaningful in all our work Report fairly on people as well as power and find things out. This underpins all of the above.  How powerful are newspapers?
